TONKATSU by Terazawa is a Japanese Katsu Restaurant by Chef Akinori Terazawa from Nagoya, Japan, franchised locally by The Bistro Group. It’s a rebranded concept of Ma Maison Japanese restaurant in Greenbelt 2, focusing solely on Chef Terazawa’s specialty, which is the Tonkatsu.

Here’s our TONKATSU by Terazawa experience…

We tried the nicer-looking TONKATSU by Terazawa branch in Nuvali, which replaced The Bistro Group’s original Pig Out resto concept.

TONKATSU by Terazawa-4.jpgI like the maaliwalas feel of the resto, which is also surrounded by greens. It just gets hot during lunch time because it faces the afternoon sun.

✮ Chasoba Salad (P225 +10% service charge).

This cold noodle salad was very good, topped with strips of nori, with Japanese mayo on the side.

They mix it for you tableside. It’s a good appetizer for the katsu meal ahead.

✮ Tokusen Kurobuta Rosu Katsu Set (P595 +10% service charge). Premium Deep Fried Black Pork Loin Set.

Make sure to order the specialty of the house — the Kurobuta Rosu Katsu — which uses premium pork loin of “black hog” Berkshire pork from Japan.

You can dip it in Tonkatsu sauce with ground sesame seeds and some chili.

(I still prefer crushing my sesame seeds using a mortar and pestle.)

The meat was tender with a good bite. The panko was OK and not too oily.

TONKATSU by Terazawa-34.jpg
The only thing is the meat tasted a bit bland.

TONKATSU by Terazawa-31.jpg
Oyster, Prawn, & White Fish Set (P490 +10% service charge). 1 pc Oyster, 1 pc Prawn, with 1 pc White Fish.

The Oyster katsu was good, and they use a long meaty prawn for the Ebi Katsu. The white fish was not that good because it was too soft…it didn’t have any bite and flavor.

San Miguel Premium Malt (P95 +10% service charge)Ice Tea (P65/glass +10% service charge).

Best to pair your meals with a premium malt beer or their signature ice tea to wash off the fried taste.

I like the location and ambiance of the TONKATSU by Terazawa in Nuvali better than the Greenbelt 2 and Lucky China Town branches. It’s a good place to get your katsu fix when you’re in the south.

Make sure to order the Kurobuta Rosu for the best katsu experience here. Budget is P600/head.

About TONKATSU By Terazawa
TONKATSU By Terazawa is a Japanese restaurant inspired by the Owner and Chef Akinori Terazawa from Nagoya, Japan. It prides itself on its house specialty Kurobuta Tonkatsu (from Pure Berkshire black pork) and other Katsu dishes namely – Rosu Katsu (Deep Fried Pork Loin), Hire Katsu (Deep Fried Pork Fillet), Nagoya Meshi (Pork Katsu with Miso Sauce Nagoya-style), Deep fried Oysters, and Ebifurai (Jumbo Prawn Katsu). It also offers unlimited servings of Japanese rice, cabbage and tonjiru miso soup.

The tenderness and good quality of our pork are a result of the natural way of ageing meat and the use of “nama panko” or fresh bread crumbs.” – Chef Terazawa

P.S. The salad dressings for their cabbage were also a bit diluted.
