RAK of AEGIS: A Pinoy Rock Romantic Comedy Musical featuring the Songs of Aegis! (A Review) @PetaTheater
RAK OF AEGIS is a Pinoy Original Musical based on the music of Pinoy Rock Band, Aegis. The music is weaved into a story of resilience amidst calamities and the dream of making it big someday.
It's a musical a la Mamma Mia, with a cheesy love story and the songs of Aegis as the soundtrack.
I love its visually stimulating production and the romantic comedy storyline. The first half of the musical was solid. It established the story of the different characters and their flooding dilemma with vibrant Aegis music.
The second half though was dramatic and a bit dragging. I think it could have ended better with a different conclusion.
But overall, this is one heart-warming musical with iconic Aegis songs that can be turned into a modern movie about the Pinoy's resilience and love for music against all odds.
This is a must-see for all theater lovers. You can be proud of how our original Pinoy theater productions are evolving in Manila. :)
You can still catch the last two weekend shows of Rak of Aegis, which closes on March 9!
Here's a photo essay when we watched the show with the boys...
Five awesome culinary experiences highlight the national dish of this island country.
On his Philippine episode of "No Reservations," celebrity TV Chef Anthony Bourdain hailed lechón, a roasted pig specialty of this island country, as the “The Best Pig Ever.”
Lechón is so popular in the Philippines that an annual festival, called Parada ng Lechon, or Parade of Lechón, is held every June 24 to commemorate the country’s patron saint, St. John, and inhabitants from all over the Philippines converge upon the municipality of Balayan in the province of Batangas to parade decorated golden-red or golden-brown pigs with their mouths stuffed with apples.

The Battle for the Best Tonkatsu is heating up in Manila! Here are our favorites so far in 2014...
1. KATSU SORA
KATSU SORA is the premium Katsu restaurant of the Hokkaido Ramen Santouka Group, offering 4 kinds of premium pork tonkatsu -- Spanish Iberico, Japanese Kurobuta, Spanish Shimofuri, and Canadian Sakura Pork.
Also, what makes the Katsu Sora experience unique is the introduction of the Buffet Bar of Salad, Japanese Rice, and Japanese Miso Soup.
"Sora" means "sky", and the name stands for their promise to bring you to Katsu heaven. :)
The concept is similar to Tokyo's Butagami, where they offer the widest variety of premium pork for your Tonkatsu pleaure.
Here's our Katsu Sora experience...
KATSU SORA's Premium Iberico Tonkatsu & RAMEN SANTOUKA's Shin-Aji Motsu Ramen!
We love KATSU SORA's Iberico Pork Tonkatsu Set served with a Juugukokumai Rice (healthy 15-grain Japanese Rice) and their Buffet Bar of Japanese Salad, Japanese Rice, and Japanese Miso Soup. Some diners still prefer the Kurobuta because of its tenderness and more marbling of fat. Budget is P700/head.
The resto is just a bit cramp, with narrow aisleways and high traffic at the buffet bar during the peak hours. Make sure to reserve in advance to get a seat.
For ramen lovers, hop on to HOKKAIDO RAMEN SANTOUKA and order the Shin-Aji Motsu Ramen to complete your Japanese dining experience. :)
Monday to Thursday 11.00am - 11.00pm
Friday and Saturday: 11.00am - 11.30pm
Sunday and Holidays: 11.00am - 11.00pm
Last call for orders: 30 minutes before closing time
TONKATSU by Terazawa is a Japanese Katsu Restaurant by Chef Akinori Terazawa from Nagoya, Japan, franchised locally by The Bistro Group. It's a rebranded concept of Ma Maison Japanese restaurant in Greenbelt 2, focusing solely on Chef Terazawa's specialty, which is the Tonkatsu.
Here's our TONKATSU by Terazawa experience...
