MAHARAJAS KABABS: Hole-in-the-Wall Northern Indian Kababs in Makati!

Maharajas Kababs - Our Awesome Planet-1.jpg

MAHARAJAS KABABS is a Northern Indian Kababs place by Aasish Mirpuri which started as a stall at Sunday Legaspi Market in 2011, and eventually opened in Salcedo Saturday Market.

They also won in the Food Magazine BBQ Cook-off in 2012 for their Ashman’s Pork Kabab recipe.

Towards the end of 2013, they finally opened a hole-in-the-wall place along Dungon St. in Brgy San Antonio Village beside Goto Monster. Maharajas means “King of Kings”.

If you are craving for Indian food, check out Maharajas Kababs…

The menu is simple based on the home recipes of Aasish mom. They serve Chicken, Beef and Lamb except Pork.

(I do hope they reconsider even just serving their award-winning Ashman’s Pork Kabab recipe)

Aashish, whom I met in last year’s Ultimate Taste Test, invited me to try out his Kabab’s place.

Their family comes from Northern India/ Pakistani and lives a Hindu way of life.

His parents migrated to the Philippines in 1928, and the family assimilated the Filipino culture.

✮ Roti Masala Dip (P120)

I like the home-cooked goodness of the masala, and a good match for the roti which is a bit sweet.

Samosa (P35).

The Samosas, made by his aunt, are vegetarian with potato, curry and peas. It was a bit carb heavy for me.

✮ Shawarma Special (P65) with cheese and fries.

If you are trying the Turkish Shawarma, go for the Shawarma special which comes with turmeric fries and cheese sauce 🙂 Yum without any additional sauce!

Although, Filipinos still like to put a little more sweet garlic and chili sauces. They are still experimenting on the right type of sauces to offer in the resto.

✮ Chicken Masala (P180)

I like their Chicken Masala with a spicy curry sauce and best paired with basmati rice 🙂

You can upgrade it to Kashmiri Naan Bread by adding P20.

✮ Chicken Tikka Kabab (P120) and Lamb Seekh Kabab (P180).

I love the Chicken Tikka which is still a little juicy from the good marination and yogurt sauce.

The Lamb Seekh Kabab is minced lamb meat with different secret  Indian spices cooked medium well. This was also very good without the sauce and served with India’s Basmati plain rice.

The lamb goes well with the Tamarind Chutney 🙂

It would be nice to pair the Kababs with San Miguel Premium All Malt or the imported Craft Beers. They have plans of offering German Craft Beers in the resto soon.

Congratulations to Aasish and Joy for your yummy Indian Kababs place 🙂

Overall, I like the home-cooked goodness and down-to-earth feel of this place. Try the Shawarma Special, Chicken Tikka Kabab and Lamb Seekh Kabab with Tamarind Chutney 🙂

I do hope they reconsider offering their award winning Pork Kebab recipe in the resto. Also, they need to improve on their garlic sauce, chili sauce, and their beer line up to best pair with the Kabab.

Budget about P300/head with drinks.
