ROSE BOWL Steakhouse and Restaurant is the de facto Chinese food of choice when you are in Baguio. It was known as Rice Bowl from 1945 to 1968 and renamed Rose Bowl on March 7, 1969 by Artemio and Lourdes Nang.
To ensure the original high quality of the food they serve, they decided not to franchise but decided to put up a lone branch in Bauang, La Union operated by their son, Dr. Peter Paul R. Nang.
Their food is Cantonese Chinese cuisine served in family-sharing portions.

They used to be near the Session Road but relocated to the two- storey building along Upper General Luna Road with a nice elevated view of the Baguio neighborhood.
MENU: Selected Delicacies | Wanton and Rolls, Soup | Vegetables, Fish & Abalone | Crabs, Prawns and Shrimps | Chicken | Pork & Beef | Chow Mein (Noodles), Rice | Rice Toppings |
American Dishes: Salads, Eggs and Omelets | Sandwiches, Miscellaneous | Poultry, Local Beef and Pork, Seafoods | Seasonal Fruits and Dessert, Beverages | American and Native Breakfast
Their claim to fame is their Chinese food and their tables with lazy susans to easily share the food typically used during Lauriat.
As its name suggests, they offer not only Chinese but also American cuisine to offer options for the different target market in Baguio specially for catering purposes.
Special Hot & Sour Soup (P239.50).
The Hot & Sour soup was a bit tempered – not too hot, not too sour.
Fried Chicken Chinese Style (Whole – P399.50, Half – P199.50).
Fried chicken good with Chinese spices served with crackers. Get the dark meat portions for the best tasting parts, because the white meat is bland unless you eat it with the skin.
Patatim (Steamed Pork Leg) (Whole – P499.50, Half – P259.50).
The patatim was OK with generous portions of lean meat, brown sauce, and topped with vegetables.
Although we prefer the traditional version: with portions of fat, thicker and yummier sauce.
The boys loved this and ever since they’ve tasted this, we would order sweet & sour pork in all the Chinese restaurants we go to hoping that it would be as good as this Rose Bowl masterpiece — soft, and not too sweet.
This is an interesting alternative to Sweet and Sour Pork when you are in Rose Bowl – meat balls, with seafood and tofu.
★ Whole Steamed Lapu-Lapu with Tao-si Sauce (P750 up).
We love the freshly-steamed Lapu Lapu, and they can debone it for you for easy enjoyment.
Rose Bowl Fried Rice (P199.50).
Most of the dishes are best paired with their fried rice.
Almond Lychees (Order – P279.50, Cup – P69.50).
The desserts were good enough — more for cleaning your palate after a heavy, “burpy” Chinese meal.
Congrats Mrs. Lourdes Nang, for the well-loved homegrown Chinese Resto in Baguio!
Overall, if you want to eat Chinese cuisine in Baguio go for Rose Bowl for classic Cantonese food, family- style serving that is affordable. Most of the Chinese food is good. And we are glad to know that the family is not franchising to ensure consistent quality of the food they are well known for.
I wonder how the steak/ American portion of the menu would taste like. If you have tried it, let me know your experience in the comments.

We were there last week. We don’t leave Baguio without eating here. Nice to know there’s sweet and sour pork and meatballs. Will try that next time.
