2/14/2019 Update: Manila’s Most Romantic Restaurants: Valentine’s Edition 2019!

Most couples decide where to go on a romantic date based on:

  • LOCATION. Whatever is most convenient to both and how much travel time is needed.
This blog post showcases the Top 14 Romantic Restaurants in the North in the following areas: Manila, Mandaluyong, Pasig, San Juan, Quezon City, Marikina, Antipolo and Pampanga.
  • TYPE OF AMBIANCE. This could be private dining, intimate, garden restaurant, far away from everyone, or a surprise getaway.
  • CUISINEThe most romantic cuisines are usually French, Italian, European, Continental, and Filipino. Make sure there are options for vegetarian and healthy options in the menu.
  • BUDGET. For a typical romantic date, you’ll spend anywhere from P1,000 to P3,000/head–depends on what base you are in. Ask ahead if the restaurant accepts credit cards.

Driving Directions:
Go up to Antipolo via the Sumulong Highway and you have to drive way past the Padi’s point and Cloud 9 (you’re just half way through the Sumulong highway). Your first landmark is the banker’s subdivision on your right where after seeing it, you need to turn right on the first intersection after Banker’s. Go along the road and you need to turn right to Villa Christina/ Mari Arcway. This is a narrow street so don’t be surprised. You should start to see signs of Vieux Chalet, if not just go straight and there will be a sign that would show you to go up a steep hill. You should be able to see Vieux Chalet or St. Moritz Cottage on your left.

ABOUT NORTHERN EATS

Northern Eats  is a restaurant guide based on the recommendations of Our Awesome Planet.

The book features the restaurants that we have discovered and grown to love. These are the restaurants that can serve as the perfect backdrop for special family gatherings, a romantic date with your special someone, or the perfect bonding moments with your friends.

There are three criteria that we followed in coming up with this inaugural list of Southern Eats’ restaurants in Manila:

2012 1022 NOLI Cover

1. It is not commercialized.
There is magic in knowing that what you are enjoying is not mainstream. These restaurants are typically not based in the hotel or in the mall. It is not a local chain or foreign franchise that expanded around Manila. On certain occasions though, we give in and include the original stores of local restaurants that somehow evolve to be chains as long as they still haven’t lost the magic of what made them stick.

2. It has a unique concept.
The restaurant offers a differentiating concept, which is a combination of good and consistent food, nice ambiance, and friendly service. It may be a hole-in-the-wall, a garden restaurant, a home converted into a private dining, or just a simple place to eat and yet end up being a destination restaurant that foodies can’t stop talking about.

3. It has an inspiring story.
Most of these restaurants have an interesting story to tell. In our dining adventures, we found out that the personality, the story and passion of the owners are usually big factors on how their food comes out. If you dig deeper, you’ll find out that sometimes it isn’t just the menu that keeps people coming back. The “why” of these restaurants can explain why people take that long trip or happily endure the long wait.
