PROSTATE CANCER is now one of the leading causes of death among Filipino males. Statistics
show that about 25% of men afflicted with prostate cancer die of the disease. Patients who
survive the cancer still require treatment to ease symptoms such as pain, bleeding, and urinary
obstruction.
The American Cancer Society and the American Urological Association recommend that men
over forty (40) years or older undergo periodic testing for the early detection of prostate cancer.
Early detection will prevent future disease progression. Also, treatment in the early stages of
cancer is less than when done in its advanced stages.
What is MovemberPI?
MOVEMBER (the month formerly known as November) is a moustache growing charity event held
during November each year that raises funds and awareness for prostate cancer awareness and
treatment.
At the start of Movember, guys register with a clean-shaven face. The participants, known as Mo
Bros, have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their Mo, raising money in the
process.
Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through
their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around
the often-ignored issue of men’s health.
Where will the money go?
All proceeds will go to assist in raising awareness and support for prostate cancer and men’s
health in The Philippines. MovemberPI has collaborated with SOCFI (The Subic Olongapo Cancer
Foundation Inc.) http://socfi.multiply.com, but plans to partner up with as many cancer societies
in the Philippines.
THE RULES:
Are goatees or beards allowed?
The definition of a Moustache:
1. There is to be no joining of the Mo to side burns – That’s a beard.
2. There is to be no joining of the handlebars – That’s a goatee.
3. A small complimentary growth under the bottom lip is allowed (aka a tickler).
Remember, it’s Movember PI, not ‘Beardvember PI’ or ‘Goateevember PI’
Do I have to start clean shaven?
Yes, MovemberPI is for one month only! Head starts are not allowed and go against the spirit of
MovemberPI.
