The BENCAB MUSEUM Experience

Bencab Museum-91.jpg

The BenCab Museum is one of the most awesome museums in our country today.

It houses our National Artist Ben Cabrera's art collection in a four-level building. This is also where BenCab lives and where his actual workshop is located. Exhibits of exciting contemporary artists in Manila can be found here, too.

What I love about this place is that it showcases the authentic old Baguio experience.

We were able to go to the museum as it celebrated its third year anniversary with three simultaneous exhibits. I would like to share with you our BenCab Museum visit...

Cafe Sabel is the in-house restaurant of the BenCab Museum, named after BenCab's famous muse in his paintings.

Here you can enjoy recipes by BenCab, farm fresh ingredients, and home-cooked dishes by the chef.

You can also buy the jams, marmalades, native chocolate, and homemade atchara that they sell.

Here is our experience of Cafe Sabel...

Rodel Tapaya's Prism and Parallelism

Read this First: The BenCab Museum Experience

Bencab Museum-196.jpg

I'm starting to develop an interest in young Filipino Artists who are making waves in the international art scene.

One of those artists is Rodel Tapaya who won first prize in the Asia-Pacific Breweries Foundation Signature Art Prize in 2011 for "Baston ni Kabunian, Bilang pero di mabilang".

Prism and Parallelism is Rodel Tapaya's latest solo show featuring 13 acrylic on canvas works. His paintings are about popular folklore stories of the Cordilleras and Central Luzon that are made relevant to our present lives.

I found them a bit dark, intriguing and patriotic. No wonder all the paintings were sold out before the exhibition. This is probably the last time you'll see this collection in one room.

Check out Rodel Tapaya's Prism and Parallelism in the BenCab Museum (until April 15, 2012)...

A SLICE of Pia Cayetano

One of the new concept restaurants in Bonifacio High Street Central is SLICE, the latest baby of Senator Pia Cayetano. If Sonja's Cupcake bakery ambiance and Cafe Mary Grace's homey feel-good food had an offspring with a focus on healthy and natural products, this would be it. :)

Aidan wanted to eat late at night to try a new restaurant, so we decided to try SLICE, which was on soft-opening, for our all-boys night out...

The Cake Club Dessert Haven

9/7/15 Update: The Cake Club at BGC is now closed :(

The Cake Club-7.jpg

Most of the restaurants in Bonifacio High Street Central seem to have neglected including really good desserts in the menu, so it's best to go to a place that specializes in desserts like The Cake Club by Diamond Hotel. This is their second outlet after the Rockwell Mall.

Here are our recommendations for an awesome dessert experience in The Cake Club...

A Beso Cucina Vinoteka Date

Beso Cucina Vinoteka-21.jpg

There are times when we want a breather from the boys and go on a date on our own. During these rare occasions, we would go to adults-only places that serve good food.

Chef Carlo's Beso Cucina Vinoteka is one of those places that serve good Spanish tapas with a good selection of alcoholic drinks, located in Bonifacio High Street Central.

Although, one of the disadvantages of eating on a date is that you can only order food good for two, and you have to be very selective.

We enjoyed our Beso date experience. It's a good place to hang out for good food and drinks with your special someone. :)

Mango Tree: Finally, Authentic Thai Fine Dining in Manila?!

Mango Tree-33.jpg

How times have changed!

Hotels no longer monopolize the fine dining scene in Manila. Most actually have neglected it--they hardly innovate or even renovate their restaurants. They just rely on introducing different-themed buffets with different chefs. These days, if you want to go out for really good food, you go to specialized themed restaurants.

And now, we have Mango Tree to thank for bringing Authentic Thai Fine Dining to Manila!

Since Mango Tree is a Thailand Restaurant Chain, you can expect authentic Thai food and not the toned-down, Filipino-Thai sweet version. (I was never a fan of the Mango Tree Bistros here in Manila because the food was a bit safe and lacked in taste.)

We love the Mango Tree Flagship Store in Bonifacio High Street Central for its authentic Thai dishes, high-ceiling interiors, and Thai-inspired ambiance.

Check out our Mango Tree Dining experience with my Mastermind team...
