Villa Cafe Kapampangan Resto by Chef Sau & Chef Jam

Villa Cafe by Chef Sau-28.jpg

Chef Sau and Chef Jam have finally opened a Kapampangan resto serving heirloom recipes from their families. It is aptly named "Villa" because of the old villages in Angeles -- Villa Gloria and Angela -- where they grew up.

All the dishes we ordered were rich in taste, plated well, and had that signature Kapampangan quality. Looks-wise and taste-wise, this is the kind of Filipino food that can please an international audience.

The Sound of Music-12.jpg
If the timeless movie The Sound of Music was part of your childhood, you'll certainly enjoy watching it onstage this time around.

The musical features the all-time favorite songs of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, like "The Sound of Music", "Sixteen Going on Seventeen", "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" and "Do-Re-Mi".

Watching this show with your family is a great way to introduce the younger generation to this classic. Don't miss it!

My Family Kitchen (MFK) - a Hidden Kapampangan Resto in Makati

My Family Kitchen-25.jpgMy Family Kitchen-23.jpg

My Family Kitchen (a.k.a. MFK) is the brainchild of Dada Dayrit. Here, people can taste her family's Kapampangan signature recipes, including the delicious ensaimada.

Kapampangans are known to serve yummy food without scrimping on ingredients. Taste is prioritized over price. Since the Dayrit family owns the apartment block where the restaurant is located, much of what you pay for really goes to the quality of the food.

When we were looking for the restaurant along Kamagong, we missed it the first time around. A bit hidden, it has an apartment-looking entrance and its signage can't be easily read. Nevertheless, it's worth the trip. :)

Sophie's Mom: A Modern Neighborhood Bakery

Sophie's Kitchen-7.jpg

Marie Antoinette Rosal is Sophie's Mom. Sophie is one lucky girl because her mother can create the yummiest treats. It's a good thing then that her mom decided to open a "Homestyle Bakery and Confectionary" so that the rest of the populace can taste them.

Located on the young and chic Santol St. in San Antonio Village, Makati, the bakery offers cakes, cupcakes, mochi truffles, mochi ice cream and specialty breads like Spanish bread. The place is open as early as 6am and items are baked fresh everyday.

Imagine a wonderful mix of Sonja's Cupcakes, Mochiko, Dezato and a neighborhood bakeshop (with a modern twist) minus the dine-in option -- that's Sophie's Mom.

Rockwell's Ultimate Taste Test-119.jpg

Chef C's Paella de Andaluz is a recent paella discovery, which was introduced in Mercato Centrale by our resident Angus Tapa Lady. It is almost sold out every weekend. Its success can probably be attributed to the great cooking skills that run in Chef Carlos' family. He was able to successfully learn and apply the Spanish cooking techniques passed down through generations.

At the UTT, I kept hearing people rave about the seafood and meat paella. I wasn't really surprised. The paella is quite unique and different from the ones already available in the market.

Congratulations to Chef C's Paella de Andaluz for winning over foodies at the Ultimate Taste Test in Rockwell!

Baked by Anita is dubbed as the "Queen of the Market" in Mercato Centrale. An interesting tidbit: She was the only vendor mentioned in the movie "No Other Woman" when Cristine Reyes (in the final scene in Mercato Centrale) said, "Hi, Anita" as she passed by her booth.

Anita continuously surprises us with different gourmet combinations of her bite-sized cupcakes. I just love the balsamic vinegar reduction flavor with fresh strawberries. With her unique concoctions, it won't be long before Anita becomes a legendary cupcake baker in Manila. :)

In Rockwell's UTT, she introduced her mini-cupcake with maple roasted bacon with maple buttercream. A lot of foodies raved about this bacon cupcake. Congratulations to Baked by Anita!

The Muesli Granola by Celia is our favorite healthy snack when we go on a road trip. Her granola bars are also among the favorite food finds in Mercato Centrale. They are yummy, guilt-free treats and perfect gifts for health-conscious foodies -- even diabetics can enjoy them.

In the UTT in Rockwell, Celia proved that healthy snacks do not need to be boring and bland with her Chocolate-Dipped Bar Muncher. I also liked the crispy and chewy combination of the Monkey Bar with its peanut-y taste. Now, we have something new to bring on our next road food trip! :) The UTT foodies also loved these healthy snack bars. Congratulations to Muesli Granola Kitchen!
