Maimee's Garden Cafe: Little Baguio's Little Secret

2/26/13 UPDATE: Maimee's is now closed :(

Maimee's Garden Cafe-19.jpg

Maimee's Garden Cafe falls right into the type of resto we love -- hidden, in a garden setting, away from the malls, and serves really good, no-nonsense, home-cooked food. It's also a plus if you are welcomed and treated like a family guest by the host/owner.

I thought this sort of resto only existed in Tagaytay or Pampanga, so I was quite happy to discover that there is one here in the heart of Little Baguio.

Part of me wants to keep it a secret a little while longer, but another part of me wants to share it because I'm tired of mall-based and franchised restos like a lot of other people.

Well, the part of me that wants to share won. :)

Welcome to Maimee's Garden Cafe...

The Foodies' Guide to Rockwell's Ultimate Taste Test

UPDATED: 9/2 - Final List of 55 Food Vendors.

Ultimate Taste Test 5 (377 of 425)

Here are some foodie tips for the upcoming Ultimate Taste Test Event at Rockwell:

1. Make it memorable by sharing the experience with your closest friends or family.

It is best to enjoy the tasting event with your family and friends who enjoy food. This is a good venue to reunite with long-lost friends or to celebrate a special occasion with your family.

2. Take your time and savor each bite.

We are making the event the entire day so that you can avoid the long queues and come at whatever's the most convenient time for you. We have enough food for 1,000 foodies, so take your time going from one food vendor to another.

It is recommended to talk to the owners themselves to understand the story behind the food you're tasting.

The ticket comes with a San Miguel beer of your choice: Premium All Malt, Cerveza Negra or Super Dry.  Pair and savor it with whatever you have on hand -- appetizer, main dish or a sweet dessert!  An experience you may want to try (only for those 18 years old and above!)

Captivating Calle Crisologo

Cafe Leona Vigan Lunch -007.jpg

The most beautiful street in the Philippines can be found in Vigan -- Calle Crisologo.

It was restored to its pre-war beauty with its cobbled streets and old Spanish houses. It is the only town during World War II that was saved from destruction because of a love story.

Legend has it that a Japanese General, who married a Filipina in Vigan, promised the parish priest that he would save the town from destruction from the retreating Japanese if he would agree to take care of his family.

It is not only a preserved historical street like the ones in Intramuros, but it is full of life, especially during the Festival of the Arts.

Where is the best place to eat Empanada and Okoy in Vigan?

Vigan Empanada-11.jpg

In Vigan, there is an empanadahan in the plaza near the Church, where one can get Vigan Empanada and Okoy from a series of street food stalls. We were told that this is actually a commercialized empanada area designed for tourists.

Since you are already in Vigan, why not troop over to where the locals go for their empanada fix so that you can also savor and experience it like they do?

The Secret of Vigan's Bagnet, Okilas and Longganisa!

Vigan Longganisa and Bagnet-34.jpg

Have you ever wondered how the famous Vigan Longganisa, Ilocos Bagnet, and Okilas (a.k.a. "Chicharon with Dinuguan Dip ala Vigan") are made?

Last Monday, I had the chance to discover just that as we visited a local butchery and longganisa/bagnet maker -- Manang Ida in Vigan.
