The Misibis Bay Experience: What to eat? (2 of 3)

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-100

Good food is part of our criteria when deciding where to travel next. Our travels and food adventures have made us realize that just because an establishment is charging high-end prices, the quality of food will also be high.

Here is what you can expect with the quality of food in Misibis:

Misibis Bay Resort Day 1-33
The Spice Market is where the buffet breakfast and lunch are held.

Misibis Bay Resort Day 1-37
The meals are usually included in the standard packages, so you don't have to worry about what food to order and eat during your stay. Kids below 7 years old eat for FREE.

Misibis Bay Resort Day 1-163
For each meal, the open kitchen/bar set-up changes from a soup station to a noodle or pasta bar.

Misibis Bay Resort Day 1-159
Sometimes, they serve Lechon as part of the buffet.

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-90
The BEST dish that they serve is the Angus Beef Steak. The meat is so good! They don't hesitate to replenish it as long as people are still coming to eat it -- Sarap! (Note: You'll only find it during lunch or dinner time, though.)

Misibis Bay Resort Day 1-32
You can also decide to just stay inside your villa and order for dine-in.

To give you an idea about the selection and prices, here is the menu:
Cagraray Sunrise Breakfast Special Selections, Drinks, and Desserts
All-Day Dining, Kids Corner, and Asian Favorites
Filipino Flavors and Wok-Fried Noodles & Pasta/Pizza
Soup & Sandwiches, From the Grill

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-101
Each night, they set up an outdoor grill dinner called Dela Playa Beach Grill and Tapas Bar, which offers grilled fresh seafood and steaks. :)

(Tip: Make sure you go when they don't have corporate bookings -- those guests often get top priority at the beach grill and tapas bar.)

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-92
We loved the grilled shrimps, fish and the barbecues. :)

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-94
There is live and soothing acoustic entertainment at night c/o the local artists in Bicol.

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-106
They serve a wonderfully nasty and really good Bicol Express. It has a lot of meat, the right amount of chili, and very tasty gata (coconut cream). You have to try it!

Misibis Bay Resort Day 2-88
Overall, we would go back for the Angus Beef Steak, Bicol Express, and Fresh Seafood Beach Grill. The breakfast selection is good too -- we usually ordered the tapa or daing with omelet, hot noodles or congee, fruits and taho. :)

As for some of the other dishes, there are hits and misses. Hopefully, they can gain consistency in offering delicious fare. I do hope service can be improved too; their service staff needs to be more attentive. One more thing we noticed -- the floor of the Spice Market is of poor quality and easily gets slippery when people, dripping wet from the pool nearby, walk in or pass by. Maybe this can be remedied in some way...

Full Disclosure: Nothing to disclose. We paid for all our meals and activities.

P.S. You can request for a private-themed dining set-up on the beach or in the amphitheater in the eco-park. You have to tell Misibis Bay Resort's management in advance, though, and you have to pay extra fees (unlike in El Nido where you can request for the private set-up at no extra cost)

Romantic Tip Idea: If we did not have our boys with us, I would have requested to have a private dinner at the amphitheater with these romantic lights. :)

My friends and i are going to misibis in june. We asked about dinner at the amphitheatre. They want to charge us Php30,000++ for eight people. With the ++ that's about Php4000 per head. I've never paid that much for a meal in the Philippines, even at our top restaurants. We're still deciding. They sent us the menu and it's not remarkable. Angus steak, sea bass and salmon are the choices for mains. The ambiance must be Php3000 per head.

Wow! That expensive huh? It must be a very special occasion to spend that much.

hi sir may I know if they accept credit card payment for meals and/or for other services they offer?

YES they do po.

We went to Misibis Bay last month. All I can say is the food at Spice Market was subpar! Be prepared to eat mediocre food!

How can anyone say the food at Spice Market/Misibis is superb... its drab and a total letdown. For these prices you can go head at Shangri-la Mactan or Boracay and experience world class food. This is too typical of Discovery resorts, they don't care.

Also theres no beach service or eating at the beach, there are tables but theyll charge you an extra 10% to bring the food to the beach... a beach resort with no food at the beach.

To their credit their F&B manager just resigned 2 weeks ago so I dont know how people can go from saying fantastic food to bad or mediocre food in 2 weeks just by the manager leaving... It just shows of lack of management/planning/training on the whole part of the resort.

Everyone is nice but food at these prices should be superb. If you want to spend this much on food, go to Shangri-la Mactan or Boracay. Don't go to Misibis. Don't go to any Discovery hotel/resort. They have common problems which are inherent to the culture of the organization.

I take back that one part about the food. The food tonight was a lot better.... BECAUSE THE GENERAL MANAGER WAS THERE.

What does it say about a resort that improves only when the boss is around? Towels are there neatly set which weren't the day before, lights are on which weren't on the night before?

Oh and there was beach service and you could order food at the beach today. Also reading trip advisor reviews, so many cite Rex Cortes, the former F&B manager in their 5 star reviews. It's a sad sad thing that the resort lost such a praised manager. Now I can see why everything is different without him being there.

Btw the GM boss is not friendly nor does he greet guests, I'm not sure if he works there or was on vacation there also. If not for his ordering the staff around you couldn't tell he was in charge. All the staff looked like they were working to save their jobs.

Typical filipino resort with a typical filipino attitude. I think if you want to look at the root at the problem, don't look at the frontline staff, look at who their role model is.

Save your money.
