Wee Nam Kee, Wee!

UPDATE: Wee Nam Kee's Hainanese Chicken Rice Now in Manila!

Wee Nam Kee-3

My favorite places for Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore are Boon Tong Kee, Chatterbox in Meritus Mandarin along Orchard, and Wee Nam Kee (WNK for short) in Novena.  Finally, Wee Nam Kee is opening in Manila this November, tucked inside the Ayala Triangle Gardens.

In Manila, Tao Yuan is the undisputed king of Hainanese Chicken Rice but you have to pay P450+ for 1/2 chicken and order a separate serving of chicken rice for P100+.  Wee Nam Kee's Hainanese Chicken will debut at a price point of only P170+. The price of Shiok but with the quality of Tao Yuan -- how can you beat that?

Foodies are definitely excited to welcome The Best Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore, now in Manila!

 Wee Nam Kee-1
Every time we go to Singapore, I make it a point to ride a train to Novena Station. Novena is very special to me because the P&G Singapore headquarters are based there, and we would often visit the office at least once a year.

To go to Wee Nam Kee in Novena, you have to walk and cross the pedestrian overpass (where the photo above was taken, with a view of the P&G Singapore HQ).

Wee Nam Kee-7
Wee Nam Kee in Singapore is very simple, much like a hole-in-the-wall that just became big.

My last visit to Wee Nam Kee was last September 28, 2009 when we visited Singapore for the Take Me to the Philippines campaign of of Black Eyed Peas. I really miss it already, especially since we have a lot of ho-hum Hainanese chicken rice available in the metro.

Wee Nam Kee-6
Arvind Mathur, one of my Indian friends in P&G, is a foodie. We would usually meet in Wee Nam Kee to catch up on life in and after P&G. He loves Hainanese Chicken Rice as well and he would often rave about Wee Nam Kee as the #1 place for Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore.

A lot of P&Gers love Wee Nam Kee, and I'm not surprised that a former P&Ger, Linfred, got the Manila franchise for it. Way to go!

Wee Nam Kee-4
Wee Nam Kee (Singapore) Hainanese Chicken Rice (SG$8) and Plain Rice (SG$1).

The chicken in the chicken rice can either be steamed or roasted. The roasted is the best seller and is indeed a unique signature dish of WNK. The meat is tender, tasty and a bit fatty. They have the best flavorful chicken rice, too. :)

Wee Nam Kee-5
But the best part of the Wee Nam Kee experience in Singapore is the unlimited serving of garlic ginger, chili, soy and jalapeno sauce  I like the fact that it is served home-style and has that freshly-created look.

In Manila, restaurants would serve these in the tiniest portions in little saucers. And if you order additional sauce, they would usually give you "the look".

I'm excited for the opening of Wee Nam Kee in Manila on November 15, Monday! I heard from Linfred that they imported one of the actual chefs (who cooks in Singapore) to be the main chef here in Manila.  Wee!

hi anton, i thought the opening is on oct 29? thanks for this info! im excited to try this as well. :)

They moved the opening to November 15...

yay!!!!! hope they'll have cereal prawns too! <3

Boon Tong Kee's terrible, and Chatterbox's disgustingly overpriced. Both are tourist traps, strictly reserved for ignoramuses who don't know any better. The rice at Boon Tong Kee is overwhelmingly ginger-based and tasteless, and the chicken requires a drenching of salty soy-sesame marinade for the littlest bit of favour. Wee Nam Kee's better in terms of price and quality (their chicken is one of the best but not the rice) but it's not the best. If you want great aromatic and flavoursome rice, try Thien Kee Hainanese Steamboat. It's the best, it's so good you can eat it on its own.

Going back to Manila after a 6 day semestral beak; and was able to eat again in Wee Nam Kee.
I asked the man manning the cash register (I think he is the manager or owner of WNK in SG)if October 29 is the opening, and he said it was moved to 14 Nov since the construction of the Ayala Triangle franchise won't make it on the proposed date.
I am much more excited for the cereal prawns than the chicken even if I just ate there 3 days ago. Nice!

Always love a good Hainanese meal! Looking forward to this! Thanks, Anton.

I'm excited for Wee Nam Kee as well especially that it's going to be near my office. It's definitely going to be a go-to place for lunch.

It's also nice to put a face to the name "Arvind Mathur" since I only get to talk via phone or chat with him via communicator. Now I know what he looks like. Haha :)

This is interesting! I have never tried any of their foods. But it really looks so delicious.

Ack I'm so hungry for authentic, flavorful chicken rice!! Excited for Wee Nam Kee! :D

Ohh God! It increase my hunger :P
I can not wait for them more.Love to eat them:)

It's nice to hear that there would be a Hainanese Chicken Rice served in Ayala. It would be better though if there would be one in Tagaytay where you can eat in an open area.

love to try hainanese chicken!

Thank you very much for this wonderful news!!!! We love this place so much - in fact, my husband is going to Singapore this weekend and has plans to eat here again. I hope the Philippine version is just as good or even better....

Hi Anton,
Do you have their number and where exactly is Ayala Triangle Gardens?

It is easy to see them in the middle of Ayala Triangle gardens.

Ex T.Pinpin St., Binondo, Manila (Singapore Hainanese Chicken Rice) have been relocated to 1547, Adriatico St., Ermita Malate, now we are operating from 10am to 10pm. We are directly opposite the new wing of Robinson Mall cosmetics section,we also can been seen on the new Robinson condo Tower 2, our neighbour is a Korean resto,we are located along Adriatico St. after Padre Faura and before Pedro Gil, Thanks for your pass support Tel: 02-381 2878

I would highly recommend for you to try Tian Tian Chicken Rice in Maxwell center (Singapore). It also has other branches. Tian tian has the best chicken rice. The first time I tried it was because of Anthony Bourdain. It was highly recommended by him and it didn't disappoint. Its the best. Way better than Wee Nam Kee and Boon tong kee. Just be ready for the line because regardless of the number of chains beside it, it is still the people's choice. I really hope you could give it a try :) You wouldn't regret it!
