Belly Fest and Awesome Events this June You Shouldn’t Miss :)

JUNE 5 7PM SATURDAY | Belly Fest 2010

I’ve been fascinated with Belly Dancing ever since my first authentic encounter in the Desert Safari Arabian Night in Dubai

Don’t miss the biggest Belly Dancing show by the country’s most prominent bellydancers, including Jill Ngo, Arcel Benson, Nilda Boquiren, Lovely Rodriguez, International bellydancer Belynda Azhaar, Zumre, Priya Murugesan, Gladys Mallari, and Jill Ngo’s Goddesses of Bellydance, the country’s biggest professional bellydance troupe. The belly dancing teaser during the Ultimate Taste Test 4.0 convinced me that we shouldn’t miss this event.

JUNE 12-14 LONG HOLIDAY WEEKEND | Mayoyao Expeditions

Exploring the old village of Mayoyao

Explore the Village of Mayoyao in Ifugao together with Cordillera Expeditions. Located north of Banaue, Mayoyao, Ifugao offers you one of the oldest villages in the Cordillera Mountains. It is like many parts of the mountain region — a feast for the eyes and food for the spirit. Mayoyao has some of the most beautiful rice terraces in the Cordilleras and some of the friendliest locals that you will ever encounter in your travels.

Stories of old of generals and commandancias abound as Mayoyao is situated close enough to the lowland plains. It was one of the few villages of the Cordilleras that became host to Spanish missionaries during the Spanish period. General Emilio Aguinaldo also passed through this village as he was escaping from the Americans through the mountains. The chronicler of his expedition described Mayoyao as a place of immense beauty, but the soldiers of the Katipunan begged Aguinaldo not to be left behind as they saw their compatriots losing their heads, one by one, to the noble Igorots.

Today, Mayoyao is as it was when Aguinaldo passed through — immensely beautiful beyond words, but with the difference of much more friendly and welcoming locals.

Waterfalls, rivers, misty mornings, smiling children, magnificent stone terraces, and much much more… We can only go so far in describing it on paper. The best way to experience Mayoyao is to be there yourself.

JUNE 26, 2PM SATURDAY | Legally Blonde Opening Weekend!

The second half of the 2010 Theater Season in Manila is getting exciting. Nikki Gil (of Coke commercial fame) plays the role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde The Musical in Manila! The show is an adaptation of the Hollywood movie starring Reese Witherspoon. In case you haven’t watched the film, the story is basically about Elle Woods’ transformation from a frivolous sorority star to a Harvard Law student as she pursues the love of her life who dumped her for a more “serious” girl.

The show is bound to be fun as it features a star-studded cast:

  • Nyoy Volante (known for his acoustic performances) – coming from a convincing performance as Seaweed J. Stubbs in Hairspray. This time around, he plays a smart teaching assistant, Emmett Forrest, who becomes Elle Wood’s ally.
  • Jett Pangan (iconic rock star) – coming from a Spring Awakening performance that we missed. 🙁 He plays Professor Callahan in Legally Blonde.
  • Cris Villonco (our favorite) – coming from a hilarious Romeo and Bernadette performance. She plays Vivienne Kensington, the “serious” girl.
