Cosmic Kidz, The Biggest Playground in Manila

Kids Universe is the "Fun Ranch" innovation of SM Malls. It is the latest kiddie place that opened in time for the Christmas season in SM Mall of Asia. With the World Pyro Olympics being postponed to early next year, there is really no other "new" place to go with your kids. There's no new Carnival or visiting exhibits like the Dinosaurs last year (except for the traveling Big Blue Whale Exhibit in Ayala Malls).

One of the reasons you might want to consider visiting Kids Universe is that it houses Cosmic Kidz, the biggest Kiddie Play Area in Manila -- about 4 stories high. I'll give you a photo tour of the place so that you can use it to share stories with your kids. Also, I'll share with you potential dining options around the area.

Upper East Power Lunch

One of the coolest restaurants in Salcedo Village is a restaurant training lab of AHA Philippines, inspired by Upper East New York Restaurants. In NYC, you would see rich ladies having power lunches on a weekday. They are marketing the restaurant with that Big Apple "snootiness" in mind:

"A word to the wise: UPPER EAST is not for those sans chutzpah and those unwilling to pay for the price for a taste of New York style." (Source: Welcome to Upper East)

(Update 12/4/09 - A lot of people are offended by the marketing copy and I do hope they change it)

The ambiance is heimish chic, the food is not something to rave about, but the people there are down-to-earth friendly. It was a perfect restaurant setting for meeting one of the most influential couples in the broadcast industry today.

World Pyro Olympics ‘09 postponed

The Executive Committee of the World Pyro Olympics (WPO) '09 announces the postponement of the WPO originally set on November 28, December 5, 12 and 19, at the Bonifacio Global City to a later date early next year.

The incessant rains and flooding during the past months have rendered the firing area almost unfit for pyrotechnics launchings, which have certain international standards to observe. The participating countries have thus agreed to postpone the event.

Ticket holders are requested to contact WPO hotline 568-6908 / 384-0239 or log on to www.worldpyroolympics.com for more details.

The Goose Station's Degustation

The Goose Station (pronounced as De-Gus-Tation)

1. A Degustation Restaurant by Celebrity Chef Couple, Rob and Sunshine Pengson
2. Named after Rob, whose College Monicker was "The Goose"
3. Named after Sunshine's love for Foie Gras (Duck Liver)
4. Last Featured in OAP: Sunshine Puey, Goddess of Degustation and Roberto Pengson, Culinary Kung Fu Master

It was a clever play of words from Rob, who wanted the name of their restaurant to be more down-to-earth rather than snobbish. Finally, the couple's dream restaurant came true after doing monthly degustation dinners at Rob's Global Academy Culinary School in Pasig. It is located on the ground floor of W Tower residences, in a secret part of Bonifacio Global City, near St. Michael the Archangel Church.

The Night China Won Over Germany

Germany World Pyro Olympics-4

There was perfect weather throughout the day until evening came, when the World Pyro Olympics was about to start. Nevertheless, rain or shine, the Greatest Show on Earth had to go on. The first firing by Germany was pushed back to 8pm and China immediately followed at 8.30pm.

Although China was the better pyro-musical performance with a medley of romantic Chinese love songs ala Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, there was a lot of smoke that covered parts of the fireworks show (probably leftover smoke from Germany's performance). The haze stood still as if big, dark clouds hovered over the VIP section. There was no wind like in MOA (maybe due to the heavy rain), so the smoke remained and covered a big part of the fireworks area.

The world-class fireworks show was a sight to behold -- it made us feel like kids again, just watching in silence, with mesmerized smiles on our faces. Thanks to the organizers for making the World Pyro Olympics more accessible by setting it up in Bonifacio Global City!
