8 Ways to Help in Your Own Personal Way...

Oplan Damayan

I just arrived back home and every Filipino Family based in Manila is affected in one way or another. Here are things you can do to help in your Own Personal Way...

1. Just Help Anonymously

Manuel L. Quezon III has a complete and up-to-date list on how to help Typhoon Ondoy victims. He has been on top of the digital space ever since the typhoon started. Good job, sir! :)

This Google Spreadsheet is also very helpful on How / Where to Help Out The Ondoy Victims.

2. Support your socio-civic organization's efforts like Oplan Damayan from Manila Jaycees
Every Jaycees and Rotary organization (or other similar groups) has its own aid efforts. The Manila Jaycees (MJC) were in the middle of elections for the JCI Board for next year, and they were flexible enough to adjust their schedules to organize the relief efforts for the people of Marikina last night. I admire that; I might be more active with Jaycees next year...

[Oplan Damayan] "Junior Chamber International - Manila will continue to accept donations for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy from 9am - 9pm up to Tuesday Sept 29/at the Baypark Tent, Roxas Blvd, Manila, which is near Malate Church/ Max's and Rajah Soliman Park. Volunteers are welcome to join the packing of goods (Canned Goods, Ready-to-drink Milk, Bottled Water, Blankets and Clothes).

MJCs are still in awe at the amount of devastation we saw last night in Marikina. We were able to deliver relief packs straight to the families taking refuge in 2 schools in lower Marikina. Up to 12 families sleeping in one classroom. The whole city is rea...lly a mess and many families still in need. Pls keep the donations coming to JCI Manila's Oplan Damayan at the Baypark Tent, Roxas Blvd. thanks"

Ovi Shoot over Fishballs...

You must have seen this viral video promoting Ovi by Nokia. I'm a recent convert to Ovi, which means "door" in Finnish, particularly the OVI Share services where you can upload photos/video over mobile. I'm amazed at the quality of the uploaded photos and the ease with uploading it in Ovi . I also love the album photo embed function of OVI Share (see below). :)

It was fun to shoot the OVI campaign. Let me share with you the behind-the-scenes photos...

Roti Mum's The Oat Bun

ULTIMATE TASTE TEST 2.0 RATING: 3.8 out of 5.0

Ultimate Taste Test Event-98

"One of the best coffee buns I've tasted..."

I was personally surprised that Roti Mum's Coffee, Choco and Oat Buns were among the highly rated food items in the Ultimate Taste Test Event 2.0. They did not hit the 4.0 rating because there were 3 foodies who commented, "Kopi Roti is Better" and rated them with 2.0 only.

What I love about Roti Mum is their new product -- The Oat Bun! It uses whole oats for more fiber and less sugar than its coffee and choco counterparts. This bun was first introduced in the Philippines because of the push of the owners to provide a healthier alternative for the Filipino market (good job!).

We will surely see them in the bigger Ultimate Taste Test event but we requested that they give out tasting portions of their buns instead of the whole buns. We noticed that Roti Mum was a popular take-out item in the taste event. :)

Supreme Brazo Bars by Ces Lopez Cafe

ULTIMATE TASTE TEST 2.0 RATING: 3.8 out of 5.0

Ultimate Taste Test Event-85

"Brazo was the best! Love the Walnuts on it!"

Supreme Brazo was the consistently raved about dessert in Ultimate Taste Test 2.0. Think of it as a Brazo sandwich with the meringue as the buns (shaped like a bar) and the different flavors as the palaman (spread inside the sandwich). The best flavors are the Walnut Wander and the Copaco-Mango. If you love Aurely's Special Brazo in Pampanga, this is 2x better because of the double layer of meringue and the 13 flavors to choose from. (Papayag ba ang mga Kapampangan?) Our foodie hearts now belong to Supreme Brazo...

Also during the taste event, they served a Freshly Squeezed Baby Lemonade that foodies raved about. It was a perfect complement to the different sweet desserts. Most people used it to clean their palate.

Ultimate Taste Test Event 2.0!

Ultimate Taste Test Event-4

"It was my first time to attend! What an amazing event! =)"

We are super thankful to the 17 food suppliers, 180 foodies, and our sponsors who made the Ultimate Taste Test 2.0 a success! One hundred percent of the proceeds of the taste event were donated to the construction of the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Fort Bonifacio. We can't wait for the Ultimate Taste Test 3.0 -- in a bigger venue in the Fort area (hopefully). This time we are planning to have over 50 suppliers and invite all OAP readers (around 1,000 foodies). It would be the Ultimate Ultimate Taste Event of the year...

(Contact rachediaz@gmail.com if you want to join the next taste test event as a food supplier, or you want to be a sponsor for the next event. We are just finalizing the venue...)

Conclusion: “For Good and For God”

The Philippine Economic Miracle Part 4 of 4 by Willy E. Arcilla

[I'm republishing the articles written by my friend Willy Arcilla, the marketing genius behind the success of C2 in the Philippines and Vietnam, on his 2020 vision for the Philippines. I share this vision that soon all of us will say, "I Live an Awesome Life in the Philippines." - Anton, Founder/ Editor of  Our Awesome Planet ]

Their heroic act not only unlocked the vaults of hidden wealth, but triggered a shockwave of nuclear proportions throughout government – members of the Cabinet, the Senate, the Congress, AFP, PNP, even corruption-riddled agencies like the BIR, BOC, DPWH, CHEd, Deped, GOCCs up to the regional, provincial, municipal, and baranggay levels returned their loot as all civil servants followed the example of conversion and restitution.

This ultimate act by the country’s most corrupt political leaders and their cronies in turn elicited an overwhelming response of compassion and charity from people, who forgave them of their plunder as they themselves were reminded of the words of Jesus Christ to those who wanted to stone an adulterous woman, “Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone”.  Even the Church hierarchy was moved by the heroism of the offenders, absolving them and honoring them in their Sunday homilies, perhaps reminded by Jesus Christ’s announcement, “I did not come for the righteous, but for the sinners”, enacting the parable of the prodigal son and a loving father, and prompting the church to declare a Feastday for all lost sheep, to commemorate what Jesus Christ said, “There is more rejoicing in heaven over 1 sheep that was lost then found, than for the 99 who are safe”.
