House of Wagyu Heaven

House-of-Wagyu
Rache and I went on a date in wagyu heaven last Friday. We decided to try the Premium Rib Eye 8oz Grade 8 Wagyu of House of Wagyu in Podium. Most of the wagyu we tasted before are only Grade 5 and these are usually the ones available in Manila. The highest grade is 12 or 13 (I think) which is only available in Japan. We were so excited to try out a Grade 8 wagyu for the first time in our life!

House of Wagyu serves Wagyu steaks exclusively and associated with Melo's steakhouse. The wagyu steaks are imported from Australia. If you are a Wagyu fan like me, you should try the House of Wagyu in Podium.

House of Wagyu-4
Wagyu (和牛 wagyū?) (source: Wagyu on Wikipedia)
" refers to several breeds of cattle genetically predisposed to intense marbling and to producing a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat. Also known as Kobe beef or Mishima beef, the meat from wagyu cattle is known worldwide for its marbling characteristics, increased eating quality through a naturally enhanced flavor, tenderness and juiciness, and thus a high market value.... Because of the wagyu cattle's genetic predisposition wagyu yields a beef that contains a higher percentage of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids[1] than typical beef. The increased marbling also improves the ratio of monounsaturated fats to saturated fats."

House of Wagyu-2
I must admit it is very intimidating to go to House of Wagyu because of the steep prices of the steak and other dishes. If you decide to go on a date here, please check out the menu in advance so that you already know what you will order. (and importantly, your budget :)

House of Wagyu Menu
Appetizers and Salads | Wagyu Beef | Fish & Shellfish and other specialties | Desserts, Beverages and Wines

House of Wagyu-3
The House of Wagyu ambiance is formal with an imposing poster of the Wagyu breed at the back. Since it is inside the mall (ironically), you need to dress smart casual at a minimum.
House of Wagyu-5
Check out this huge chiller of Wagyu Beef!

House of Wagyu-11
The wagyu steaks come with a free serving of Soup of the Day. The mushroom soup was almost perfect.

House of Wagyu-13
Caesar Salad for One ( P225 + SC) We ordered caesar salad and had it divided into two servings.

House of Wagyu-15
Premium Rib Eye 8oz Wagyu Grade 8 - ( P2,850 + SC)

All of the cliches about Wagyu is true. It is soft and it melts in your mouth. You don't need a sauce anymore because the meat itself is tasty. We shared one steak and it was enough for both of us. Slice the beef thinly and savor each bite.
After finishing our meal, we were in Wagyu heaven and we both agree that it was worth it.

House of Wagyu-17
The prices in the menu are VAT inclusive. They would charge 10% for service and you won't regret it because the service is friendly, professional and worth it.

Hi Anton,

Just a correction on the Wikipedia - Not all Wagyu beef call be called Mishima Beef since to be called Mishima beef , The beef needs to have been raised in Mishima Islands in Japan . They extremely expensive since they only butcher 50 to 100 heads a year.

Its weird that they put that kind of restaurant on the fifth floor of a shopping mall. Unless they're actually doing well, then I could be wrong.

Another issue for me is the wine list. I have nothing against cheap wine, but I have everything against wine that sucks. Chez Samantha with top-of-the-line steak? Sayang naman!

chinkee is right, the wine list sucks... They should let you bring your own wine without charging corkage...

Anton, I love House of Wagyu! Brought my lolo there about a month ago, and yes! It is really worth it! We also tried the fish, and it was lovely! How I wish I can eat there every week! :)

hi anton! how would you differentiate it from the Wagyu beef served in Malcolm's? I'm already happy with what I tried in Malcolm's and its cheaper than House of Wagyu in podium... so what makes it more special than in Malcolm's? The grade?

Posted by: mia | Aug 15, 2008 9:28:21 AM

does anyone know who is the chef running this place??

Posted by: M | Aug 18, 2008 2:30:46 AM

Wagyu and Kobe are not one and the same. Wagyu is the breed while Kobe is the place. Therefore, Kobe beef is Wagyu that is from Kobe. Australian Wagyu, sad to say, is the most inferior of all.
