Tacloban Fiesta

Sinulog 2006 - 46

Good Morning friends of OAP! We sincerely hope that everyone's OK during the stormy weekend. Just a tip on weather forecasts: Always check out Wundergound.com for the most accurate weather forecast of Manila or any other city in the Planet.

I'm heading off to the Pintados Kasadyaan Festival in Tacloban this coming weekend. I'm working with the tourism committee of the local government to help them promote the city. I hear a lot about Tacloban but I don't see a lot of write-ups about the awesome places there. Any tips on awesome places, food and things to do in Tacloban?

And oh...don't forget to drink tuba.hehehe..

see you there!

btw the photo you used is not from pintados kasadyaan.

its from Pintados de passi.

Hi Anton,

See you there! ill be there on the 26th.. we are trying to arrange a photo tour..sama ka?

Anton, I cannot wait to see your photos and even now I am already thanking you for it. I was born and raised there and it will always be home. I believe Ate Joelle has contacted my two siblings to comment here. They will also be home during this time. You will be in good hands if you will be working with the tourism committee. I believe it is headed by Ms. Tiopes. I suggest contacting Gerry Ruiz (gerryruiz.wordpress.com). He is the owner of Calle Z (callezaragoza.com) which Mitch mentioned. Or Joey Reyna (joeyreyna.com) or Dave Martinez (http://imageevent.com/dayv). These are photographers based in Tacloban who are gathering a group of photohobbyists to cover the different events happening.

Other than the regulars - San Juanico Bridge, Sto. Niño Shrine, Sto. Niño Church, visit the Palo Cathedral as well.

Ocho, I heard they have this kangkong dish that is really good. I actually know the owner (Edrick Yao). Yolanda's for fresh (I mean fresh - straight out of the sea) seafood and cooked while you wait. You have to try the baked scallops. Giuseppe's, I dont know if they still make their chicken pastel but thats my favorite. They have an extensive menu. Bisto Uno for the sizzling pusit. Hotel Alejandro for food and history. They have a museum there of the history of Leyte. Rafael Farms is a good place for food and relaxation. I have heard about Jose Karlos a lot from my siblings.

You must try this bibingka along T. Claudio. Just ask someone about it because I dont know the exact address. =D Its divine. Its not as well known as the moron and binagol but its really good. Its only available for a certain time. Its best eaten while hot and the butter is melting away. Yummy! You must try moron, binagol and the pastillas from Carigara. Try the lechon and like Mitch said with vinegar, salt and garlic. Lechon sauce is a rarity there LOL

If you have the time - go to Marabut Island for some water sports and beach resorts. White water rafting in Calbiga, spelunking in Sohotan Caves. Sabin Beach Resort. I dont know if my cousin's dive shop is still in operation but he offers scuba diving, wakeboarding, kayaking and the like. Its the one owned by Gerry Domingo. Indoor wall-climbing at Bukid.

There's more but I will get information about those first.

Have a safe trip and enjoy Tacloban. Maupay nga adlaw! (Good day!) Maupay nga Patron! (Happy Fiesta!)

Raissa, that was more than a mouthful! :)

LOL Mano Gerry..did I cover pretty much everything? I dont feel like I did. =D
