Never Shall I Fail... (Rogin E Bloggers Unbreakable Challenge Update)
Rogin E Bloggers Unbreakable Challenge Update (March 31, 2008) -- My Personal Reflections After One Month

I've been struggling with weight loss ever since we got married last January 2003. Rache and I have been hitting the gym almost 3x a week before we got married. We were disciplined in the food that we eat. Over the years, I let my weight accumulate to my heaviest weight ever at 212 lbs. One reason is we love to eat and the OAP blog was a witness to that.
The Rogin E Bloggers Challenge is my 5th attempt to lose weight since last year. The first attempt was my decision to join the marathon -- my first ever that took place last year. It was very effective in training my body and legs to run the entire 42km stretch. But it was not effective because I continued to eat whatever I liked. My second attempt was to enroll in a one-year membership at Gold's Gym. I only used it once or twice. Gold's Gym just profited from that arrangement. The 3rd attempt was just last December when I joined a biggest loser challenge among office friends. I lost in that challenge and I still owe P1,000 to Boni, who won. Two months ago, Jim Lafferty launched a company wide biggest loser challenge where the winner will go to the Corporate Athlete training in Florida, USA. I lost that too! So, for those who are attempting to lose weight, you can probably empathize with my struggle. Can you share your own story?
After 1 month into the Rogin E Bloggers Weight Loss Challenge, I'm just starting to get into the gym groove. Thanks to Rogin E for the 2 months Gold's Gym membership, the excellent trainer Jopet and the Nike apparel incentives for hitting the gym. I've been traveling lately so I did not have a chance to go to the gym for the last two weeks. To get back on track, I just finished my 15km Mizuno Infinity run yesterday at the Fort Bonifacio area. I finished my run under 2 hours. I liked Mizuno's tagline of "Never Stop" running but ironically, the water supply stopped after the 7km mark. (Just a side note: I'm disappointed that even Mizuno does not know how to organize a proper Marathon).
As with any green blooded archer, my motto is "Never Shall I Fail...". I hope you don't mind that I make my OAP friends, as my accountability partners in my unbreakable quest to lose weight and get that 6-pack abs :) I will update you every week about my progress on the Rogin E unbreakable challenge. Check out the Rogin E Unbreakable Challenge Website.

Anton, good seeing you yesterday at the 15K. Always be weary of 1st time organizers, no matter how big the brand - carry your hydration when you can.
'I'm disappointed that even Mizuno does not know how to organize a proper Marathon.'
Please note that a marathon is a specific race distance - 42.195Km or 26mi and 385 yards. Any other running race distance can't be called a marathon.

try brown rice! i'm an advocate of it, lose only a couple of pounds but that couple of pounds amounted to 10% of my weight already! if you like wheat bread, you'll be okay with it. if not, then...

All the exercise in the world means nothing if you don't watch what you put into your mouth.

check you blood type, if you're type A, u shd be a vegetarian, type B or AB - any protein and vegetable combination is fine. if you're type O, u shd have 80% protein and 20% vegetables... try also walking at least 30 mins a day.

Been a silent reader of your blog... but thought I'd finally comment after reading about you trying to loose weight and start running marathons. Your story is almost exactly like my husband's. He was tipping the scale at around 200lbs when we got married. He got tired of being out of shape so signed himself up for the HK Marathon telling himself there's no backing out now because he already paid for it! He trained, dieted a little and did the marathon in over 4 hours. That was 4 years ago. He has since stopped eating rice during dinners and only having salads for dinner. His commitment to do better at each year's marathons has made him loose weight and stay in shape. He has lost over 30 pounds since then and is now aiming to break the 3 hour mark in the Gold Coast Marathon this July. I am so proud of him! You're such a passionate person, I'm sure you can do it too!

I can relate... I lost a few pounds last year but it bounced back after losing my control. Been conditioning myself to start off again with diet and 30-minute threadmill per day.
When I lost weight last year, I tried South Beach and it was effective. What I like about south beach is that the strict diet is only in PHASE I (first two weeks) and then, in PHASE II and PHASE III, you can re-introduce the foods you are supposed to avoid in PHASE I. In South Beach Diet, you can also eat as much as you can as long as it is in the list of "allowed food."
PHASE I is no sugar, no carbs, no bad fats, no fruits as it also contain sugar and no fruit juice. You can eat veggies as much as you can, lean meat and eggs. You won't feel busog but you won't feel hungry. You will lose 8-12 pounds for the first two weeks.
PHASE II will re-introduce the carbs and other food and you will continue to lose 1 pound per week until you achieve your desired weight.
PHASE III is maintenance.
Rice is the number one culprit for gaining weight and sugar too. If you just remove rice from your diet, that would be a great!
Good luck to us.

Me and my wife were at the Mizuno run too. You are right about the lack of water during the race. I also thought that the race marshals did not control the road traffic properly. Seemed like a runner could have been run over by a car, jeep or motorcycle.
I usually have a weight cycle of gain over the holidays and then loss over summer. But I've noticed that advancing age does make it easier to gain weight. I've controlled my weight gain with a change of diet - mostly fruits and vegetables. It is hard and takes commitment. I got used to it after a while. I still eat the "bad" food but in small amounts. Just savor each bite.

i gained yata 5lbs when i joined your ultimate kapampangan show off hehehe but well worth it. what has worked for me so far is to really watch i eat and balance workout with food. remember you need to burn/have deficit of 3500kcal to burn one pound of fat. sadness! one way to shave off kcals is to go clear ... yup magtubig ka na lang.
