Infographic: Your Awesome Journey to Pagudpud

Blue Lagoon -002

" Luzon's white sand and bluest water conspire majestically to be situated in one place. " - Lonely Planet 9th Edition

Maira-ira point is the northernmost tip in the Luzon Mainland. You can say that you are on top of the Philippines literally. The unspoiled white sand beach within the Maira ira islands is known as Blue Lagoon. I would dare say that this is the best swimming beach in the North and more apt to be called the "Balesin of the North". It has an undeveloped charm that seduces you to stay despite the lack of proper huts and urban amenities. It is serene and perfect for presence walks and enjoying bonding time with friends and family.

Blue Lagoon -001

Blue Lagoon Beach Guide: (definition)

Blue Lagoon -011

Sand quality and color – White when dry and midday. Beige when wet in the morning or late afternoon. The sand is fine mixed with small shell bits.

Water quality – Crystal clear and stunning Blue due to the color of the sky reflecting in the water.

Blue Lagoon -023

Pollutants – Minimal. Since this place is becoming popular, I do hope they will be able to maintain it.

Gradient – There is a gradual slope from the beach as it kiss the blue water and it suddenly drops off exceeding a normal person's height.

Waves - Calm as a pond when the notorious Ilocos surf is taking a break.

Currents – I don't think this will be safe for children so make sure that they have a life vest and not just a floater device.

Underwater obstructions – Minimal and the bottom is mostly beach sand near the shore. So, our favorite past time here was to jump into the blue waters...

Blue Lagoon -017

Marine Life
– Hardly noticeable from the beach area.

Sunset- Unfortunately, the sun sets behind the mountains and you cannot see it. Therefore, the best time to go here is in the morning before lunch and spend your sunset in Saud beach or Bangui beach.

How to get there
Blue Lagoon is further down the road about 45mins drive from Saud Beach. From the main Maharlika highway, there is a beach turn-off to a low road as the highway approaches the seaside. At this point, the caretakers have begun charging an entrance fee for the use of the table and as well as the rinsing rooms. Be prepared for a dirt road ride along the mountains side so it is not advisable to go here during heavy rains. On the way, you will see a sea arch to the right that looks like a naturally formed rock donut. You're now 1/4 of the way and will see Blue Lagoon soon to your right. Please bring flashlights and camp gear if you want to stay for an early evening swim.

hi anton,
i'm sure this info on pagudpod will come in handy especially for those who want to plan ahead their easter break destination. my dad is from the north (baguio) but we never got to that part of ilocos maybe because it's an "unchartered territory" for me. thanks for the comprehensive review of some beaches/hotels which you've tried and thus recommend. you've inspired us to explore more the philippines - a very interesting place in this awesome planet!

we visited blue lagoon oct 2006 and the waves were just crazy! it was as if we were inside a giant washing machine. it was a scary but fun experience. we were told by the locals to stay near the shore because it is dangerous to venture far out into the open sea. i agree with anton that it is not a safe place for children, even with life vests because the current can pull you away. during our swim, there were no lifeguards or any other people for that matter, so be very careful because it's every man for himself. nonetheless, maira-ira is still a must-see. a trip to ilocos is not complete without a visit to this beach. the next time i visit i hope i get to experience the same calmness that anton was able to enjoy =)

I have been to different places like well known Bali, Indonesia, most of the islands in Hawaii, have traveled in many parts of the Philippines like Mindanao and some of the Visayas but I cannot trade the beaches of Pagudpud. It is such an awesome place that I consider it like a paradise. It is a beauty by nature, a must for everyone to see.

For this reason, we decided to buy a lot and better watch out for the opening of 3 cottages now in the planning stages with the hope that it will be completed by summer.

Hi Anton!
I spent almost 2 months in Pagudpud 5 years ago for our College practicum, together with 14 other Human Ecology graduating student of UPLB , where we made an Environmental Baseline Information and a Strategic Environmental Plan for 3 Barangays in pagudpud including Barangay Balaoi where Blue Lagoon is in. And I must say, making the place commercialized was really hard for us to give as a suggestion simply because the place is just too beautiful to be "invaded" by so many people. We were afraid that the place might be abused. But we still made the suggestiion just the same with notations on how to maintain the serenity and beuty of the place. If your pictures were taken just last year then i'm happy to know that the place is still as beautiful as it was 5 years ago!

Pagudpud is a sanctuary for me.

hello :).. i've been planning to break away from manila even for few days..you're site is helpful..hope i can go to pagudpud just before summer hits so it wont be crowded..my souls is yearning for it.. hahhahah :)

i hope i have known Dennis before we went to Pagudpud! Maybe he would be kind enough to welcome us even if he is fully booked... We were not able to stay over night when we returned to Pagudpud Holy Thursday because the beach owners said they were fully booked! = ( So, we just went back to Batac. If only we have decided to stay overnight Holy Tuesday! aargh.... TIP: Book first before going!

kuya safe po ba pag nagovernight?? and ayos po ba yung mga cottage nila sa maira-ira????

Dennis, what are prices in pagudpud?

How much are beach property cost?

kuya pag commute lang bah d2 hanggang dun xah maira- ira pano.. pag mag bus kah hir to pagudpod xan ka baba taz ano sa2kyan papuntang maira ira??????

Hi,im very familiar in that place, can you tell me where or what part of bluelaggon or maligay are you building a resort.Hope to hear from you.
Monet

Hope you can have a good time there.

how to get to maira-ira beach(blue lagoon)...pls??

Veron and Monet,

One of our cottages will open before Holy Week. Curtains and bed from California still on its way. The other cottages will definitely by June which will be our grand opening day.

Our cottages are designed just like a vacation house. Upstairs is a master bedroom and 2 other rooms with full bath, a family room with sliding door going to the patio overlooking the ocean. Downstairs is another bedroom, a kitchen and a living room.

It is 2 building (duplex type) with a total of 16 rooms in all excluding the bungalow house still under construction.

Hi Dennis, what is the name of your resort? Do you have available rooms on March 20-21? Please send me pics and rates of your resort. Thank you!

hello, anybody knows where can i stay in this lovely beach?
pls contact me in my email "[email protected]"
thanks guys

Rates will be the prevailing market rates in the location. Bet yah, the cottage is awesome. Lots of people are already asking . Will tell you the connection later tonight, PST since I am presently at work.

I conceive my daughter athea during the summer of 2004 at pagudpud, now she's 3 my husband hermar and I are planning to go back and bring athea on her first long drive out of town trip, its just that were a bit skeptic were to stay... the cheapest accommodation, help us out please, it'll mean a lot to our little rascal...

hello..
is there any up coming events this summer?

Hi Veron,
Basically the rates for our buildings will be affordable ranging mostly from probably 250.00 to 350.00 to per room per night w/ complementary breakfest. right now , only one unit is still up for occupancy but hopefully by late june or july all the units are in full swing, and also the water is perfect at that time of year. so we are looking forward to seeing you guys there.

Hi Malee,
The directions to Blue Lagoon is to just drive up north bound from Laoag city pass a couple of towns till you reach the Bangui zigzag road there's a rest stop and also the first chance to view the Bangui windwills w/c are a sight to see. after that drive up a little further north till u reach pagudpud then after 45 min or at least an hour drive you wont miss the big Blue Lagoon sign on your left, where the entrance is.

paradise on earth. breathtaking views.
