Krispy Kreme in Manila

By

I got the email below from Krispy Kreme today:

Subject: Krispy Kreme is Here!

Dear Sir Anton,

Krispy Kreme, Americaโ€™s favorite doughnut, is finally opening in the Philippines on Nov. 30, with its first store at the City Center, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Before the opening, we would like to give Our Awesome Planet the ‘first bite’ into this much-talked about doughnut. We would like to ask your permission to send you Krisy Kreme doughnuts.

Please let us know where we can send you the Krispy Kremes. You may email us at this address (press_***@yahoo.com) or contact 729-**** or 0917-******* and look for Blooey.

Thank you so much and we hope to hear from you.
More power to your blog!

I immediately called Blooey to check if this was indeed true. It turns out that they are starting to seed these Krispy Kreme to the “media”. Now, I’m not sure I’m qualified to be part of the “media” but I’ll be glad to get a first hand taste of these fresh doughnuts ๐Ÿ™‚ Krispy Kreme will finally open on nov. 30 in the City Center the Fort. This is the new rows of restaurant in front of Serendra– more places to blog about!

Also, during the store opening, the very first customer to buy doughnuts will get a one year free supply of Krispy Kreme doughnuts! In the US, it was rumored that a guy, Rob Perugin, camped out for 17 days to get this one year supply. (see Krispy Kreme Mania) I thought about it for a minute, and said to myself, would I want to get fat for a year? Would you camp out for these doughnuts? Imagine, the guy camped out starting today until the opening on Nov. 30. So I guess, there is no hope now for any Filipino in beating the record of 17 days….

Their website is now up and running at http://www.krispykreme.com.ph/ and I immediately signed up to become “Friends of Krispy Kreme”. My plan is when they send me a box of these doughnuts, I will buy Go Nuts donuts and have an informal taste test with friends. Let the battle of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts vs. Go Nuts Donuts begin!

  1. Please include Hoops Donuts in your test. Their doughnuts are good. I think as of now they only have one branch and it’s at Casa Susana Arcade in Alabang

  2. Wow, that’s awesome Anton!! Lucky you! Krispy Kreme donuts really are the best. In my honest opinion, it’s not even at par with those of Gonuts or Hoops, though I enjoy all of them in different levels. Can’t wait for their store to open! So excited! I think I’d have to write about this in my blog as well.! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. why don’t you also include cello’s donuts when they are freshly baked and still warm. that’s along katipunan ave. in front of the Ateneo its in the building were PSBank is located.

  4. as you may or may not know, the real draw of KK back in the States are the stores/bakeries which are open 24 hours (like in Manhattan or the one south of Wash DC). There is nothing better that a freshly baked donut at 4am after a night out. This is where Gonuts went wrong. We will have to push KK to become a late night hang out …

  5. Free donuts were given out last night at my wife’s office. You can line up for us and share the wealth with your one year’s supply worth of donuts!

  6. Hi Anton! Guess what, my fiancee and I were having dinner last night at Bamboo Lounge (whose food are great, btw!), and we saw the owners of Krispy Kreme. My fiancee knew how I’d die for a bite of those donuts so he walked up to them and simply asked if the their stores were already opened. They nicely said not yet, but offered him some of the honey-glazed donuts that they had in hand. Before we left the place, my fiancee said thanks again to them, and they nicely offered us some more! Hehe, just sharing ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. uy anton ur reaching celebrity status na, ur being offered freebies :)hehe…i hope you were also able to catch the inquirer last sunday, the owner of sonja’s cupcakes acknowledged ur effort in achieving wide recognition…tnx for the updates and reviews, it helps keep me in the know…ur makin’ quite a number of pips happy (moi included) keep it up ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. i just started reading your blog yesterday and i’m totally hooked! this is an awesome site, anton! this is exactly what i’ve been looking for. and all of a sudden, i’m noticing everything i’ve been reading about. i just came from S&R and had some of chef tony’s kettle corn, passed good burger on the way to my office here in tektite, and i also saw the future site of krispy kreme in the fort on my way from S&R. it got me really excited. i’m loving this blog. keep up the good work, man!

  9. Hi Anton! You are one lucky guy! Hmm…Krispy Kreme and GoNuts do taste quite similar. If ever you’ll push thru with the test, do make sure the tasters are blind to what donuts they’ll be tasting to avoid bias. Can’t wait for the results!

  10. I don’t mean to be a wet blanket, but I kind of feel bad that Krispy Kreme is opening at The Fort where Gonuts Donuts also opened.
I love Krispy Kreme; Gonuts’ Amazing Glaze is very far from the Krispy Kreme donuts they were trying to copy. I never thought I’d say this about donuts, but Krispy Kreme really is something else.
But to open in the same vicinity as Gonuts is to compete with them directly and I fear for Gonuts Donuts. Call me corny, but Gonuts Donuts is 100% Filipino (tama ba?) while Krispy Kreme is a foreign franchise that Max’s bought and it was a very expensive franchise too. So sana lang people support both.

  11. I am also very excited to have that store to be opened in The fort. Well, I admit that I really love donuts…I do not know why I am so addicted. One of the empployees of our company brought so many boxes of krispy kreme. After that, it became a much talk about topic in our department. Cuz it’s so good. But i wanna taste more. So i am waiting for the store to open. But they say that KK donuts are so expensive. Is it true that a donut costs 38 pesos? Well, I’ll include that in my budget. Awesome!

  12. Thank God! The Philippines has now ‘Crispy Kreme.’ My favorite donuts here in Australia. I grew up during the ‘Dunkin Donuts’ popularity in the Philippines. But I like Crispy Kreme Donuts, it’s delicious!!! Mabuhay Beautiful Philippines!!! Mabuhay Crispy Kreme in the Philippines!!!!

  13. hello there anton,
just to add to what via said hoops is available at 2F Metropolis Alabang between Pizza Hut and Greenwhich, 2F Festival Supermall between Mossimo & Cinderella and at the Cinema Entrance of Alabang Town Center between Jolibee and North Park.
we recently got featured on page 73 of the December issue of Entrepreneur magazine Philippine edition

  14. This has got to be the best donuts I have tried in my life. I used to like dunkin donuts but these days their donuts maybe cheaper but it’s smaller and lighter.
