TheFrench Corner

October 18, 2006 Update: Formerly Voulez Vous which means “Do you want? “, I just recently went back to Westgate and realized that this place has a new permanent name “The French Corner”. Here is my original post on Voulez Vous and I was wondering if only the name was changed or is there also something different with the menu and the chef?

Original Post Title: Voulez Vous? Do you Want? (January 17, 2006)

Formerly C’est si Bon (which was registered already to a pastry store) , Voulez Vous offers Mediterranean cuisine — I crave for this type of food 🙂 This is manned by Billy King’s proteges Larry Cruz and Chef Mauro Arjona. Billy King’s claim to fame is having worked as the executive chef of Le Souffle which is one of Manila’s Best Fine Dining restaurants. This is located in Westgate Filinvest, Alabang and if you look at the building structure, you won’t be immediately attracted with its weird shape building facade.

The bar (located at the center) looks serene with its minimalist filipino look with a touch of mediterranean art. It looks elegant — not too imposing, but just perfect for that evening dinner date.

I had to take this picture because I want to let my readers know that If you are planning to reserve in this place, reserve this side of the restaurant (beside the road entering westgate) which have a nice window living room setting. This would be perfect for that Sunday brunch setting. There is a corner dining area (top left most side of the photo), with the arc entrance which should be perfect for dining with a small group and get the privacy that you need.

Fettuccine with Scallops and Prawns in Oriental Sauce (P395) – deliciouso! Although be careful not to eat too much of the parmesan or else your lips would be itchy because of its high salt content.

Fresh organic Pasta al Fungi (P295) — not the usual pasta you can find in an italian resto. If you are looking for that different mushroom taste, then you should try this.

Seared Sole Fillet with tomato – onion – potato compote (P395) – boasting to be one of the killer food and it gives the fish a slightly fruity twist.

Coffee Crunch Souffle (P150) — deliciously sinful.

  1. my fiance and i had dinner there last year during their “soft opening”. i had surf and turf–you should try that. sarap!! when i made reservations, they even asked if it was a special occasion and they served a special cheesecake for us with greetings on our anniversary! the 2nd time, my fiance ordered the surf and turf naman. next time, it’ll be my turn. hehehe.

  2. My family and I dined at French Corner last July 2006 to celebrate my son’s 3rd birthday. We enjoyed the food esp. the steak and chicken roulade. After our dinner, to everyone’s delight, they gave my son a free personalized mini cake. The cake was so cute. Some of the waiters also gathered around to sing Happy Birthday to my son. The cake was like some sort of chocolate mousse. It was a pleasurable dining experience.

  3. We treated some clients here for lunch and it was also the first time I tried it. I liked the experience and will definitely come back, maybe with my husband for a date 😉 It’s also not too expensive for a nice resto and they were generous with portions. Everything we ordered was good. =)

  4. My hubby went there first to attend a biz group lunch. A few weeks later, he egged me to meet him in Alabang for a date since he will be coming from one of the tech parks in Cavite. It became a late lunch date at 3pm. We had the whole resto to ourselves. I liked the creaminess of the cheese souffle. Seafood pasta served al dente with freshly cracked pepper. The steak guy (my hubby) was satisfied with the tenderness of his meal. Will recom to people looking for a date place down south or if you don not mind driving. It will probably set you back P1500 with drinks, assuming you do not order the high end steaks.

  5. I had dinner at The French Corner tonight & all I can say is, WOW, I am definitely coming back there! I had the steak with foie gras & it was soooo good! Totally worth it.
