Peri Peri Chicken Experience

By

Definitions of peri peri on the Web:

“Piri-piri, peri-peri or peli-peli is the name used in Portuguese and a number of African languages to describe the African bird’s-eye chilli, a member of the capsicum plant genus. This is a small and extremely spicy variety. The variations in spelling derive from the various pronunciations of the word in parts of Africa, although “piri-piri” is the correct spelling in Portuguese. ” (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peri_peri)

Just by its definition, you can tell that the peri peri chicken would taste something exotic. After roasting the chicken for 30mins, it is then subjected to a spit fire oven before being served to the guest. The white meat was just as tasty as the dark meat that every bite was juicy and releases the flavorful taste of herbs and spices. One would be surprised that the usual chicken wing can now be eaten with much gusto unlike when you eat Baliwag’s or Andok’s that it just goes to waste. The experience was similar to the CNT lechon of Cebu where you do not need any more sauce to supplement its taste and it can stand on its own. Although for chili lovers, you might opt to try their unique peri peri chili sauce which could be an acquired taste because we are used to the tabasco chili sauce or the garlic chili taste in chinese restaurants. The sidelines are nothing but ordinary but the place turns over diners like a fast food restaurant.

I’m not surprised that this less than a month old restaurant is such a hit and this became famous through word of mouth. Although, I was sad that Peri Peri Chix replaced Kohikan’s spot in Greenhills Prominade. This is their first store and I’m sure at the rate they are going, I’m hopeful that they will open in Glorietta soon! Check out the rest of the photos of the peri peri chicken experience. Thanks to Pam and Tanya for the tip!

The place was cozy but the tables are closed to each other. If you are a big group, you might want to reserve in advance.

Peri Salad (P75). Crisp garden greens tossed in their own dressing.

The vegetable was crunchy fresh with the peri peri sauce which tasted like light sour cream mayonnaise, was just OK.

A Peri Peri Chicken Combination (P145). 1/4 Chicken with 2 sidelines.

This was just a perfect order with the Java garlic rice which blends very well with the spit-fire grilled chicken. I liked their benefit claim of “spit-fired grilled to juicy goodness. ”

  1. Where is Peri-Peri Chicken located in Metro Manila? the grilled chicken looks yummy and my family wants to try it soon!!

  2. wow! I think this is a place where I can take my parents who are in a strict low salt, low fat diet to .. where is this place?

  3. Thank you for posting this. I fell in love with Peri Peri chicken when I lived in London via Nando’s restaurant. It reminded me of chicken inasal in a way. I even bought their bottled sauces to make my own at home. I’m so happy to hear we have it here too. 🙂

  4. I remember Portugalia along White Plains Avenue. That was a bit of an oddity of a restaurant though — the chicken took over an hour to cook!

  5. Is this Peri-Peri Chicken a franchise of Nando’s? I sent you a PDF of the Nando’s menu Anton, just so you can see how similar they are? If Peri’s as good as Nando’s, then I’ll be sure to check this joint. Cheers from Sydney folks!

  6. the owners of kohikan and peri peri chicken at promenade are the same. they are my friends 🙂 they also own tokyo cafe in the mall of asia.

  7. yeah NanDos rock!! i t hink the chicken tastes the same as peri peri but … would be great if they have the peri peri chips also.. !!! *~

  8. Nandos is the best, this is definately not one of Nandos brands. You cant beat the real thing. Nandos were the orginal peri-peri chicken brand worldwide. I just wish they would hurry up and come here.

  9. Don’t be misled! My husband and I had dinner there 2 weeks go. It was bad! S-L-O-W service. Rubbery mashed potato, served a bit colder than room temp, had to request they reheat it na lang sa microwave. The worst is the chicken. Parang how many hours na syang naka hold. Reheated lang. Not worth our money. We chould have just ate Kenny Rogers instead!!!!!

  10. Just thinking of Nando’s makes me salivate. I had it when I was in England and in KL. The chicken in England is bigger, but the ones in KL are more tastier. I fell in love with their peri-peri sauce and I’m proud to say, I can take their Extra Hot sauce.
Yes, the menu looks like a rip-off of Nando’s. I do hope Nando’s comes here and blow away all competition.

  11. Sorry to tell you but there’s no bacolod chicken inasal abroad. But you can enjoy that here in the Philippines. They got a lot of branch now in Manila. Enjoy!

    1. You can ask them to pay for your medical expenses and other incidental expenses such as transportation or your wage if you did not go to work. 2. You can report it to the Quezon City Health Office 3. Don’t eat there next time and even tell others not to if they don’t improve 4. If you want to file a case, you must have a verified report by an epidemiologist establishing the food indeed caused your LBM From: esclada_jbn@yahoo.com

DOH REPLY… AYAW PANIWALAAN NG PERI PERI MANAGER

  14. Peri Peri Chicken is the SHITiest “casual” dining there is and I quite agree. Also:
    3. Ang dumi! May langaw na tapos sira-sira pa yun upuan, like butas na yun couch/stool na pinapaupuan nila.
I gave Peri-Peri Charcoal Chicken lots of chances para ibalik yun dating service nila na maayos. Pero tama na, BULOK na nga yun FOOD, BULOK PA YUN AMBIANCE! Mabagal yun staff, madumi at luma mga gamit! SHITTY PERI-PERI! I will NEVER Go back there again!
